Children & Teenagers
Well-aligned teeth are not just beautiful. A healthy occlusion contributes to long-term oral health. We support the healthy development of your child’s teeth and jaws with modern dental appliances.
EARLY TREATMENT
act early – benefit in the long term
In some cases you should plan your child‘s first consultation as early as kindergarten age. Cases that require treatment at an early age for optimal results are, for example:
- anterior or posterior crossbite
- open bite
- severe distalbite of the lower jaw
- premature loss of primary (baby) teeth
Early treatment ideally replaces a prolonged treatment later in life. At the very least, it may decrease the severity of malocclusion.
Space maintainer
When primary teeth are lost prematurely due to cavities or dental trauma, the space for permanent teeth needs to be preserved with a space maintainer.
Activator appliances
The growth pattern of the jaws can be actively guided for a more harmonic positioning. Follow-up treatment with braces may be shortened in duration or may even become unnecessary.
Functional appliances
Functional appliances utilize the body’s natural growth during developmental growth spurts to achieve a more harmonic positioning of the jaws.
Myobrace
Myobrace® is a preventitive early treatment method targeting the root causes of malocclusion and promoting natural growth and development.
MAIN TREATMENT
Taking advantage of juvenile growth spurts – for good and stable results
For the best possible results, we recommend that you schedule your first appointment when your child is around 8 years of age. At that age, your child has primary as well as permament teeth, making it a good time for regulating the transition of teeth and for profitting from growth spurts. The optimal time to start treatment varies according to the individual needs of your child. We will advise you when to start.
We do not merely align crooked teeth; successful treatment optimizes the functionality of the dentition and contributes to the prevention of cavities, periodontitis, anterior dental trauma and the premature loss of teeth.
Braces for main treatment
Teenagers up to 18 years of age
- Functional appliances
- Fixed braces
- Clear aligners
- Anchoring with mini-implants
Fixed braces
It is not possible to treat every case of malocclusion with removable appliances. For more complex or multiple adjustments, brackets are permanently attached to your teeth. All treatments are digitally planned first. In my practice we use modern wires, delivering gentle and constant forces upon the teeth.
By request, special prophylactic measures can be taken to protect your teeth against cavities and decalcification. You should also schedule regular appointments with your family dentist every 6 months throughout orthodontic treatment.
Clear aligners
Aligner treatment is almost invisible. The treatment procedure is digitally planned in advance. An aligner must be worn the entire day, except during meals and tooth cleansing. They make adequate oral hygiene simple throughout the treatment. We achieve highly controlled tooth movement with gentle low dose forces by means of our digital planning setup.
Anchoring with mini-implants
We have various types of temporary mini-implant available to accomomdate your individual treatment goals. Mini-implants are installed into the palate or alveolar process in a minimally invasive procedure and are removed after conclusion of treatment. Through anchoring it is possible to successfully align teeth, which might otherwise have to have been extracted due to a lack of space.
Sports mouthguards
FOR CHILDREN, TEENAGERS AND ADULTS
A sports mouthguard protects teeth, jaws and soft tissue during athletic activities. It consists of an elastic material to cushion impacts. The exerted forces are spread out over the surface of the mouthguard to reduce the immediate impact on hard and soft tissues.
PROPHYLAXIS AGAINST CAVITIES DURING ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
Healthy teeth – your whole life long
Special prophylactic measures can be taken to protect your teeth against cavities and decalcification throughout your treatment. We advise regular appointments with your family dentist along with oral hygiene advice every 6 months throughout your orthodontic treatment.
